Why are the Video game and Social media meeting together ?
Long ago social media and video game industry were separated without any collaboration. However, Due to the growing of video game industry has dominating in the entertainment field. With the social media has popularity too, so social media try to adapt themselves to collaborate with the video game industry.
But how can they work together ?
What is Esports ?
Esports is a form of sport competition by using video games. They take the form of multiplayer video game competition by using professional players or as a team. Because of the growth of esports, many game developers are providing tournament and other content to persuade the audience. The most common video games that mostly associate with esports are first-person shooter (FPS), multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), battle royales, real-time strategy (RTS), fighting and carding game.
The tournament mostly broadcasting by YouTube or Twitch. After their tournament and video games were well-known and famous then there were many people want to follow the news of the tournament, video game or the pro player that participated on that tournament. Therefore, the organization create the community with social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Twitch.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO)
Global Offensive (CS:GO) is first person shooter (also known as FPS) is video game that centered on gun and other weapon in a first person perspective.
CS:GO has tournament which was organized and sponsored by company Valve. That their tournament are interested by gamer around the world. The first CS:GO tournament was organized in 2013 name “Dreamhack winter” took place in Jönköping, Sweden and boasted a total prize of $250,000. The tournament had a peak 145,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch and the in-game viewing client. After the first tournament the game still organized and developed their tournament to attract audience. Until now CS:GO have tournaments which were organized almost two hundred tournaments. The become more famous with the tournaments and pro players so, CS:GO find the ways to compile the audience that have some interested to create community in social media for entertaining, advertising and keep the games still famous.
Like the other type of video games such as multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), fighting, card games, battle royales, and real-time strategy (RTS). They all have the tournaments and pro player that famous and attract the audience to their social media.
Media platform that become part of Esports success.
Live streaming platform
Since Esports need to live broadcast so, the live streaming platform has become an important role to Esports for streaming tournaments and the streamer like pro player also use these platform too. For example, Shroud (Michael Grzesiek), he is known for CS:GO pro player at first but after he left his team he became streamer that have 7.04 millions followers and total views 336 million on Twitch and Ninja (Tyler Blevins), he is known for Fortnite and become streamer that has 14.6 million followers and 480 million total views on Twitch. In 2018, Twitch had 2.2 million broadcasters monthly and 15 million daily active users, with around a million average concurrent users. But with more contest on live streaming platform, Shroud and Ninja are two of the gaming world’s most watched streamers, They switch their platform live streaming from Twitch to Mixer. The owner of Mixer is Microsoft that give him contract that more interesting than Twitch. Also Facebook has launched Facebook gaming that specific on gaming live stream such as live Esports competition and gaming streamer.
Twitch is a video live streaming service operated by Amazon. The platform primarily focuses on video game live streaming, including broadcasts of ESports competitions. Twitch has became the most interested platform of video game that in May 2018, it had 2.2 million broadcasters monthly and 15 million daily active users, with around a million average concurrent users.
Mixer is video game live streaming platform that came after Twitch. Mixer is operated by Microsoft and they try to attract the people into their platform by sign Shroud and Ninja who are two of the gaming world’s most watched streamers.
Facebook trying to collaborate with video game industry too. They created Facebook Gaming, it is a hub in Facebook website to find and follow game content.
Social media platform
After the the video game industry has growth and attract various people the social media platform is the choices to increasing commercial profitability. Many firms use social media for advertising and increasing customer numbers due to the numerous advantages of social media.
Facebook is the social media that can do many type of commercial to increase the customer. For example, video game industry create Facebook page in order to inform the news, to advertise and to promote by using video up load on Facebook page. Moreover, Facebook also can create group that compile people that interesting in game to create community and share information. Facebook advertising is mainly used text and video in order to commercial.
Twitter has became social media in order to commercial and inform too. The content in Twitter can spread very fast because of the hashtag, that video game industry can create a content and use the hashtag to spread it.
The many customer was in Instagram. So, Instagram is the social media to use too especially the photo and video contents that post on Instagram and it can be spread by customer post in on their Instagram stories.
In conclusion, as we can see, social media took part in an individual life and the video game industry has growing everyday. So, many firms use social media to increase profit and promote like video game industry. However, there different apps and different platform can promote different content can promote. So, the video game industry and social media can collaborate each other in nowadays media.
