I use this topic because todays it very popular in Thai society and can gain a lot of ratings , including gain more profit for company .I like to consume boys’ love story as well via Fan-fiction and I think this pop-culture can make many impact to our society it not only fun but also educate reader.

It may be new to your ears, but BL — or Boys’ Love — has actually been around since the 70s. Originating in Japan, they were formerly also called Yaoi.” These romances between beautiful boys (bishounen, in Japanese) or beautiful young men (biseinen) were originally featured in media catered to young female audiences, particularly in comics or manga.

In Thailand , Many teen actors become popular actor from boys’ love series like Bright who be an actor for 8 years but he just became a famous after “2gather” series was broadcasted in last year . From this reason , there are many company create boy’s love story to make their actor become famous and successful in rating like GMM and MCOT ,etc.

In light of Postmodernism , hyperrealist and spectacle comes to the picture that in Boys’ love story Most of actor are not LGBTQ but they can make people believe that they are true love couple because the spectacle which represent the relation between actor by mediated image. It cannot defied that what is real in the series because the acting , including can make people emotional with the series. Plus, there are the imagined couples that they must act be like couple to make fan club happy in the event and on social media . From this reason, some of fan club strong beliefs that they are real couple and cannot distinguish between reality and spectacle. I have seen many when actor in Y series have a girlfriend , some Fan club not accept it and cursing on social media. So , many boy’s love series must hide their relationship or pretending to break up with his girlfriend but in worst they must breakup with his girlfriend because fan club go against his girlfriend that can effect his work. For example , one actor from boys’ love series must to breakup with his girlfriend because international fan club
( Chinese fans) go against to his girlfriend . I think hyperreal and spectacle can make people do not care what is real , they care only what it make they happy and fun.

Nowadays, many media companies use LGBTQ as an object in commercial ways. It is an ordinary thing that the companies have to make a profit with their products, but the way they present and treat the actors is not only in the movie but also continuing involved with their real life. To give an illustration, assign them to do activities like they are having a relationship with each other to satisfy the Fan club and to gain money to their company.

Boys’ love series in Thailand came to the attention of major media groups looking to produce fresh TV content for young viewers. MCOT — a national broadcaster — converted an online novel entitled Lovesick into a TV drama in 2014 and from then on, Thailand’s major TV companies invested into creating BL dramas as a way to tap into young women’s consumer culture.

Moreover , the type of audience there is a Niche Audience that is small and specific group of audience but more influential divided by gender and generation ( most of people who consume Y series is under X generations ) , especially the group of people call Y girl and Boy who like to consume boy’s love story in fiction and series. That I have seen most of audiences from Asia for example Thai ,Chinese , Taiwan and Hong Kong .

In Y series use Gratification theory to create the series in order to make audience fulfilled their need and motivation. Many boy’s love series plot will in the collage because Most readers and authors are teenagers, so life in college is what’s closest to their real life, so it will make audiences feel empathy with the series . Moreover , people image themselves to be like the represented thing in media. Sometimes can make comparisons between character and their own behaviours. I think it fulfilled their need of teenager because some of adult in Thai society are not accept in LGBTQ+ they have old perspective that boy should couple with women. So the series can encourage teenager to be yourself because all people should be treated equally, regardless of who they are or who they love.

More importantly , I think it seem a female gaze because most writer are women and every series are from the novel so Y series was produced through women eyes. It can effect to sub-culture pointed out that most lead characters are either engineering or medical students from affluent backgrounds. Due to the fact that many Boys Love novels are penned by female authors. “We find Boys Love characters reflect the desires of a young woman. An engineering student, for example, is a typical desirable personification of a dependable man. These characters also have a manly appearance and come from well-to-do backgrounds. These standards respond to women’s needs.”

The media like Tv drama, is one of the political tools that keep people in the frame , including believe in some ideology As for sex, the drama instills in the audience a heterosexual norm as the correct one.

It cannot denied that in Y series actor who not handsome or pretty , they will be a clown . Some people assume that EVERY TRANSGENDER has to be funny as in the drama so they often make fun of the transgender. On the other hand, boys love series are very famous and got interested in Thailand if they made the series in the form of BOYS LOVE, which the main character is not transgender (trans girl). The fans love to watch the pretty and handsome boys in the sweet scene but some of them never try to understand LGBTQ. Therefore, when they see an LGBTQ couple in real life who are not as pretty as in the series, they don’t like it and don’t accept it. More than that women in Y series seem to be a villain .

However , in todays there are many boys love series that can change perceptions of Society to make people understand about LGBTQ more which they are human like everyone because love is love not limit gender or fix it that boy should love with girl only. When talk about culture , the original of boys’ love story is from Japan in anime and fiction that like a soft power a persuasive, indirect international relation tool, has become a common practice worldwide. In addition, the openness of the ‘gender’ mentality has given LGBT people more freedom to consume media and express themselves. I think media is one that very important thing to change society. Like my mom she is baby boomers generation that quite don’t understand about LGBTQ but after she play IG and Facebook and see diversity of relation it make she understand and open mind. More importantly , in the past homosexuals was oppressed by social norm . Therefore, these movies are often in the form of underground movies, art movies, or perhaps many people called B-grade films. (Movies that are specific to a group) and often show in small theatre or specific cinemas. Which will be able to look at each story Was chasing for a cinema that was projected almost to turn over the land Plus sometimes it won’t be long in the theatre In a few weeks it was already invited.

In terms of Baudrillard , Many popular Y series reproduction from Fan- Fiction that they use image to make it reality in relationships and they use Mass media to broadcast .

Boys’ love series become a popular culture that can educate people to understand in diversity of relationships and do not discriminate the other people. Moreover, it like a revers commodity flow that the boys’ love story content in Japan disseminate Europe. As you can see the boys’ love film from Italy names “Call me by your name” that make a phenomenon increasing in tourist rate.

Lastly , the social media can change society to be better than before in light of gender role. Boys’ love series can educate teenager to know more than the class that teacher always teach boy must love with girl. It can make teenager do not hide what they is and love yourself .
