The quote is said by the model, Vittoria Ceretti, who spoke up after seeing the interview of the daughter of Johnny Depp, Lily-Rose Depp after she neglected nepotism in her modeling and acting career path. After Ceretti posted her response on her Instagram stories, later on, many famous models, for instance, Naomi Campbell, Emily Ratajkowski, and Anok Yai also supported Ceretti’s statement.

Plus, the case model ‘Hailey Bieber’, the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and the wife of Canadian singer Justin Bieber, was proudly wearing a Nepo Baby baby t-shirt which makes the internet doubt and wondered if she does not know about the controversy. or she just doesn’t care?

But that doesn’t stop, Mrs. Bieber and her friends known as The Jenner family, Kendall, and Kylie Jenner, just having a big drama with the singer Selena Gomez and also known as Justin Bieber’s ex-girlfriend. The drama started with the eyebrows thing that Kylie and Hailey were accused of shading Mrs. Gomez from the internet but Kylie responded and denied it.

It’s spicing up and isn’t just easily stopped! Because Mrs. Bieber posted a video on her TikTok with her friends including Kendall Jenner in which she used a sound that the fans think it is shading to Selena. The sound saying that “I’m not saying she deserves it but I’m saying that God’s timing always rights”. That’s leading to a hurricane towards them because the fans were upset about their actions. One of the famous opinions that the fans said about Mrs. Hailey and her peers was that they remind them of the mean girls in high school that usually bully people especially when they are getting privileges because of their parents is upsetting the fans.

But what is really Nepo baby?

The term ‘Nepo Baby’ is a short term of “Nepotism’ and it doesn’t really new. Nepotism means the way that the child of celebrities or famous person who gets fame and success in the industry of their career paths because of their parents’ fame or connections without competition.

Nepo babies don’t really mean that they have to be a newly born human but it is an all-ages phrase under the conditions mentioned above.

Nepotism babies are having in all throughout history in every industry, especially in Hollywood but the interesting is that Gen Z is giving a lot of attention to it. It is believed the blast of attention in nepo babies started with a tweet in February saying that the cast of the TV series Euphoria is nepo baby that her mother is a famous actress and her father is a film director.

Not only the tweet that lights up the eyes of the internet to nepotism but also an article “The Year of the Nepo Baby” from the New York Magazine and importantly a sarcastic cover that makes people to talks about it.

What are people’s critics of Nepotism?

The point is people don’t exactly hate them. They also admire them because they’re nepo babies don’t mean that they don’t have any talents (can’t explain how much Bella Hadid inspires and influence me, just love her). However, people will find it upsetting if nepo babies get opportunities that it was not unfair to others in the industry just because of their connections. Also, they’ll find it is disrespectful and offensive towards the audience and also other actors/models/artists who trying and working so hard to earn their fame or respect.

How Nepos reacts to Nepotism?

After Lily-Rose Depp was getting a hurricane after she speak about nepotism, she later said that she have learned an important lesson and to be more careful about this issue and said that she was super aware of the fact that her childhood did not look like everybody’s.

In the case of Mrs. Bieber who wore ‘Nepo Babies’ t-shirt, Gwyneth Paltrow, an actress, entrepreneur, and nepo baby commented ‘I might need a few of these’ on an Instagram post from InStyle posted Bieber’s outfit.

Also, they both met each other on Hailey’s Youtube Show, Who’s in my bathroom? and both agreed and shared their viewpoints.

I think it’s fair. Even though you get the opportunities that others can’t, you need to work twice as hard and be twice as good because people are ready to pull you down and say ‘You don’t belong there’ said Paltrow.

Also, not only Mrs. Paltrow and Mrs. Bieber shared the same viewpoint but also Kendall Jenner said kind of the same thought in 2018 about her model career that she has to work harder to succeed and earn respect in the industry.

Lily Allen, a singer, who also has famous parents, has tweeted that nepo babies become scapegoats for the inequality problem,

On the other hand, the supermodel Gigi Hadid answers to nepo baby question in the Times of London interview “Technically, I’m a nepotism baby” and also added that she always acknowledged that she came from privilege.

In the same way as Gigi, the supermodel Kaia Gerber, daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford, accepted to the ELLE interview that she has a privilege due to the fame of her mother in the fashion industry.

After all, what’s your thought on this?

So let’s stop talking about Hollywood and focus on Thai society

Thai people love to pay attention to celebrities’ gossip news such as their relationship status, the conflict between celebrities, and every step of what they’re doing. The thing is when it comes to celebrities having a child, their kids tend to get attention unavoidable since they’re born.

One of the reasons may be about Thai society value appearance as their top priority. Thai society, especially in the media industry, has an obvious standard towards beauty, people tend to give an opportunity to people who have a pretty face according to their standards towards Thai norms. Sadly that we cannot deny this kind of action that people use their connections at ease and don’t feel anything about it. Not only with the Thai media industry but almost every area in Thailand are patronage system, the ugly truth.

To be more narrow, I’m just focusing on the Thai media field. Funny enough that, we can count how many Thai actors/actresses have learned performance arts directly. The path to being an actor, firstly, is you just have to fit in the beauty standard regardless of your talent or experience. If you have, then you’ll get a stamp to go on. And this is the sad point, for people who are not fit in no matter how talented they are, you can only be an extra not a main lead. That’s not going to happen! I’m not being offensive to people who are pretty but such a thing is just unfair. How many Thai series (especially BL, oops) nowadays that the main leads seem to not have any skills in acting at all but they get an opportunity? To be honest, the support leads somehow seem to be better than the main ones.

But let’s get back on track, there are a lot of nepo babies who are also getting an opportunity to access fame or opportunities to succeed because of their parents. I’m not saying this to be offensive. (once again saying this to remind you, lol) They have talent but it’s just…..

Who are Thai Nepo babies?

Nine, Naphat Siangsomboon: an actor, model, and son of an actress Pimpaka Siangsomboon

3 Jao: Jaonaay, Jaokhun, Jao Samut, son of singer Jettrin Wattanasin and actress Kejmanee Wattansin

Tigger, Achira Theriault: freshly a singer, son of singer Nicole Theriault and singer Jirasak Parnpum

Seya, Miya, and Rotor Thongchua: an offspring of a singer, actor, and also a nepo baby Pete Thongchua

Achi: son of actor Fluke and TV host Bow Chayada

How do Thai people react or think?

A lot of Thais don’t really think that much about the privilege that nepo babies have to access to walk in the industry but turn to adore and support them rather than resent them.

However, if Nepo babies have once interfered with normal people’s rights, many Thais are ready to come after them. Especially among the new generation, a.k.a. Gen Z, that they are very sensitive to individual rights, therefore, if someone not just nepo babies but also whoever doing something inappropriate just watches their backs!

Moreover, the internet has also recently been concerned about how celebrities’ parents who have a child to be aware that whether they will violate their kid’s rights because there’re lots of parents not only celebs that share in almost every action of their children. So, in this case, the internets are now concerned about nepo babies’ privacy rights.

Hold on, need your attention!!

One last thing reminding you again, not here to offend anyone but what do you guys think? Agree or Disagree? Shout out!
